Sensitive detection of recurrent colorectal cancer (CRC) by measuring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) can increase the chance of a cure. This study compared the quantitative methylated ctDNA test with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in the supervision arrangements for recurrence.Blood samples collected either for surveillance or within 12 months of confirmation of recurrence was tested for ctDNA (methylated branched-chain amino acid transaminase 1 [BCAT1] / Ikaros 1 family of zinc-finger proteins [IKZF1]) and CEA.

Longitudinal studies are guaranteed to further assess the utility (especially the survival benefit) of alcohol BCAT1 / IKZF1 ctDNA in surveillance of patients with CRC.
